Obituary

Winifred "Winnie" Rattelle, 85, of Delmar passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood, Delaware. Winnie as she was fondly known by family and friends, was born on October 12, 1938 in Springfield, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Nellie Kostyla and Wilfred Miller and adopted by Severino S. Lombardi whom she adored. Before moving to the Eastern Shore, Winnie worked as a seamstress for Buxton as well as in retail for several years. After moving to Delmar, Winnie had a small business out of her home called "Winnie's Sewing" where she was an amazing seamstress. When it came time for her daughter Megan to get married, she made her wedding gown with a 9 ½' train and a 10' wedding veil as well as the three bridesmaid dresses. Winnie was a huge Elvis Presley fan, so she was overjoyed when she was asked to make an Elvis costume. The customer went on to win the competition with the costume she made for him and he loved the costume so much he was cremated in it when his time came. She loved to spend her time crocheting, needle pointing, cross stitching or embroidering. For years Winnie crafted stuffed bunnies and Raphel dolls. She is survived by her children, Jennifer Meredith (Don), Debbie Savage, Armand Raab (Bruce), Amanda Chambers (Wade), Yvonne Douville (Mike), and Megan Griffiths (Bill); grandchildren, Daniel Savage, Jason Meredith, Kimberly Horner, Paris Chambers, Nathan Griffiths, Loren McGriff, Aaron Douville, Devin Douville, and Sara Griffiths; great grandchildren, Hannah Condon, Kayle Horner, Steven Horner, Elijah McGriff, Charlotte McGriff, Kai Chambers and Kaitlyn Douville; a brother, Robert Lombardi; a sister, Dorothy Petras; several nieces and nephews; and grand fur babies, Sadie, Foxie, and Gracie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 25 years, Alan Rattelle; former husbands, Armand Golden and Edward Roberts; and her beloved pets, Brandy, Sissy, Queenie, Suki, Midnight, Buffy, Rusty, and her most recent dog, Shelly who will be entombed with her. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon on Monday at Holy Redeemer Church, 501 E. Chestnut Street, Delmar, MD. Entombment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
