William Glenn "Sonny" Hawkins, 64, of Laurel passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at LifeCare at Lofland Park in Seaford. Mr. Hawkins was born March 29, 1944 in Wilkesboro, N. C. to the late Glenn and Louise Elizabeth Hawkins. "Sonny" as he was fondly known by family and friends, was a member of First Baptist Church in Laurel. He worked as a truck driver, raised chickens and did carpentry work. He is survived by his faithful companion of nine years, Brenda S. Bailey of Laurel; a son, Ricky Hawkins of Laurel; three daughters, Lisa Stwartz of Florida, Juanita Hendericks of West Virginia and Donna Miller of Georgia; a brother, Donnie Hawkins of Laurel; a cousin, James Billings of Florida; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, W. Glenn Hawkins; a brother, Gary Hawkins; and three sisters, Peggy Downes, Martha Warren, and Mattie Sockriter. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 East Grove Street in Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
