DELMAR- - William "Bill" Leonard Green, 86, of Delmar, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born September 2, 1925 in Groton, Massachusetts, a son of the late Sylvester and Mary Grace Green. Bill was very proud of his service with our country in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific and European Campaigns. During his time in the Army he gained a fondness for the Philippine region where he was involved with the US training of the Philippine Army and he quickly fell in love with the Filipino culture, food and people. After coming to the Eastern Shore he quickly became active in the Filipino community of the Eastern Shore where he enjoyed the festivals and fiestas. In his younger days he also had an interest in CB radios and was active in local CB clubs. He was equally proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage which came from his father's side of the family. He loved to tinker and work with his hands and held various jobs throughout his lifetime. He retired as a facilities maintenance manager at the formerly called Harrison House Nursing Home in Delmar, and also worked in security and road construction. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and got much joy from sharing his harvest with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elpedia Canedo Green; 2 sons, Daniel William Green and his partner, Robert Kinnish of Alexandria, VA and Christopher Edward Green and his fiancé, Keira Dennis of Delmar; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Norman, Lawrence and Leon; 3 sisters, Esther, Irene and Lorraine; and a half-sister, Mae. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 7:00 pm at Short Funeral Home, Delmar, where family and friends may call from 6:00 to 7:00. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 at Melson's Cemetery in Delmar. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice at the Lake, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
