William "Bill" Joseph Greaser, 68, of Laurel, DE passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011, at University of Maryland Medical Center after a long, courageous battle. Born on September 7, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph Ignatius Greaser and the late Elma Mae Clements. Bill graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1960. After high school he joined the United States Air Force. After that he attended college at the University of Baltimore and the American Institute of Banking. He graduated from the police academy and served on both the Baltimore and Berlin Police Departments. He then obtained and maintained a Master Plumbing License and retired from Eastern Correctional Institute in 2002. He was a member of the Snow Hill Jaycees for many years. He was also an active member of Ruritan and belonged to the Nassawango Ruritan club for nineteen years until it disbanded. He then joined the Ellendale Ruritan club where he was a member until his death. He served every officer position in the Nasswango Ruritan club, as well as Zone Lieutenant Governor and Governor, District Lieutenant Governor and Governor and National Foundation Chairperson. In addition to his work in Ruritan, he also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and NASCAR racing. In addition to his parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Reginald and Anne Greaser and William and Nellie Hopkins; a beloved stepfather, Frank Clements; and a beloved stepmother, Lil Greaser. He is survived by his wife, Jan Greaser of Laurel, DE; a daughter and son-in-law, Elma Beth Fontaine and Jeffrey of Salisbury, MD; his beloved cats, Snowball, Spooky, Tiger, Monkey, Punkin and Princess; a brother, John Greaser of Columbus, NC; a niece and her husband, Dawn Davie and Matt of Dublin, IA; a nephew, Sean Griezer of Omaha, NE; two great-nieces. Abigail and Olivia; and a great-nephew, Abraham. A visitation will be held Saturday from 12-2:00pm, at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, MD. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm. Interment will be at a later date.
