Salisbury- William John Gordy, 83, of Salisbury, died Monday, April 3, 2017 at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. He was born December 13, 1933 in Laurel, Delaware, a son of the late King Edward Gordy, Sr. and Sally Tracey Gordy. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He retired from Preston Trucking at 70 years old and was a proud recipient of the million-mile safe driving award and continued driving commercially until December 2016. He will be remembered as an avid fisherman, loving husband, father and pop-pop. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Catherine Gordy; son, David Gordy (Trish, Jonathan); daughters, Georgia Wolfe (Zack and Casie), Deborah Hastings (Travis) and Teresa Webb (Cathy, Brian, Randy); and Daniel's children, Dawn, Danny, Jr. and Nikki; 13 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Arlene, Eileen, Dot, Imogene and Jane; and brothers, Donald and Bobby. He is also survived by 4 legged companions Sophia and Suzie. He will be truly be missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin, George and Edward King Gordy; sister, Marion; as well as son, Daniel Hastings (Chrissy). A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00. Interment with military honors will follow the services at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock. The Reverend Milbourne Adkins will officiate. In honor of Bill's laid back style, the family requests casual attire. There will be a time of food and fellowship at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 107 Alexander Avenue in Salisbury from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and everyone is welcome to join the family; feel free to bring a covered-dish.
