William E. Cannon, Jr., A.K.A. "J.R.," age 74, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at his home in Blades surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 3, 1948 in Bridgeville, Delaware, a son of the late Gladys Elizabeth (Bradley) Cannon and William E. Cannon, Sr. J.R. worked as a mechanic for Carey's Inc. in Laurel for over 30 years. He had a love for motorcycles and was a member of ABATE of Sussex County Lone Scouts, where he also served as a sergeant at arms. He loved riding and would often map out the route for club members to take when traveling to a certain destination. He also enjoyed NASCAR and dirt track racing, and in his younger days would work in the pit at the racetrack. He is survived by his wife, Myrna L. Cannon; a son, Marcus Cannon (Jacqueline) and their children, Nathaniel, Joellea, and Xavier; a daughter, Dawn Aman (Dean) and their children, Leighann, William, Lyric, Alexis, Dumon, Gabrielle, and Desjire; a daughter, Whitney Cannon and her children, Tavon, Alyssa, Dereona, and Teniaha; a great grandson, Layden; a brother, Daniel Cannon, Sr.; and many adopted family members, and special family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Cannon. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 19, 12168 Laurel Rd, Laurel, DE 19956, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 1:30. Following the service all are welcome to stay for food and fellowship and to continue the celebration of J.R.'s life.
