William B. "Bunky" Austin, 79, of Mardela Springs passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born December 5, 1933 in Salisbury, the son of the late Eldridge and Louise Austin. Bunky was a graduate of Wicomico High School. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1994 after 20 years of service with the State of Maryland, Division of Corrections-Poplar Hill. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mardela Springs. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He enjoyed playing softball and coaching the Mardela Men's Softball Team over a span of 20 years. During that time, he made many special friendships. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Catherine "Betsy" Austin; two daughters, Vicki Ewalt (Donald) and Stacey Boettger (Robert), all of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Ryan Ewalt (Heather), Kristin Riall (Chris), Zac Dolch (Catherine), Mallory Symonds (Ryan) and Tess Boettger; a great granddaughter, Ried Symonds; a sister, Diane Walter of Mardela Springs; three nephews, Donald Walter (Mary) of Ocean City, Mark Genga (Amy) of Delmar and Andrew Genga (Lori) of Selbyville; a sister-in-law, Nancy Genga (John) of Mardela Springs; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Mardela Memorial Cemetery.
