Walter S. Jones, 68, of Delmar, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born June 19, 1943 in Bristol, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Harrison C. Jones and Julia Strong Taylor. Mr. Jones proudly served his country in the Army. He worked for the Delmarva Health Center in Delmar and went on to work in the service department of Peninsula Roofing, from which he retired. He was a member of Liberty Church of Christ in Salisbury. He was an accomplished artist who won awards for his watercolor landscapes. He was an avid camper and a certified scuba diver. He trained in Shorinji Kempo technique, earning his black belt in Japan. In addition, he obtained various certificates in Tai Chi, yoga and acupuncture. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Joanne Jones; five daughters, Christie Newnam and her husband Mark of Salisbury, Julia J. Jones of Salisbury, Charlene Wilson of Salisbury, Lisa Davis and her husband Corey of Laurel, and Shonda Wilson and her fiancé Brian Disharoon of Salisbury; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Flora T. White of Salisbury; two brothers, Roger C. Jones and his wife Claudia of Princess Anne and Fred Jones and his wife Joanne of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews; and his special Rottweiler, "Xena." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Claudette W. Gibbs. A graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
