Wallace Glenn Catlin, 72, of Mardela Springs, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He was born in Mardela Springs on February 25, 1939 to Mary Louise Catlin Scott of Mardela Springs and the late Wilmer H. Catlin. Mr. Catlin proudly served his country in U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1961. He then went to work as a farmer on his farm in Mardela Springs until 1981. He later became an independent contractor with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He loved the town of Mardela Springs, of which he served as mayor and was a member of the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member since 1968, during that time he served as chief, president, vice president, secretary/treasurer, engineer, assistant chief engineer, ambulance captain, trustee chairman, and bingo secretary/treasurer. He became an honorary member in 1983 and a lifetime member in 1994 and he enjoyed playing in the fire department softball league for many years. He was also a member and past president of the County Fireman's Association. He was an avid wood worker and talented cabinet maker. He was a member of the 2nd Maryland Confederate Infantry, where he participated in Civil War re-enactments. His greatest joy was his beloved granddaughter, Ashlynn. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan Wright Catlin; a son, Donald Wade Catlin and his wife Missy; a daughter, Crystal Lynn Catlin White and her husband Mark; a granddaughter, Ashlynn Marie White, all of Mardela Springs; a brother, William H. Catlin and his wife Nancy of Mardela Springs; two sisters, Maria Vandiver of Mardela Springs and Esther Catlin Dwyer and her husband Joseph of Hebron; several nieces and nephews; special friends and "brothers" Walter Cohee and Phil Donohoe. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Department, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 12:00. The Reverend J. Harvey Dixon will officiate. Interment will follow the services in Mardela Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
