DELMAR- Virginia L. (Taylor) Sparrow, 89, of Delmar, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 12, 1928 in Delmar, a daughter of the late Littleton F. Taylor and Winnie C. (Hill) Taylor. In 1945 Virginia started her work as an operator for C&P Telephone, a job that spanned 17 years. She helped on the family farm when she was able and left C&P when her children were born to stay home and raise her family. She was a long time, faithful member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar and a 65 year member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Adah Chapter 5. She was an avid reader and a wonderful dancer. She will be missed as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. She is survived by a daughter, Jackie Hearn and husband Roger; sons, John L. Sparrow, Jr. and wife Sandy and Jeff Sparrow and wife Sue; three grandsons, Brian Hearn, Sr. (Krista), Mathew Hearn and John D. Sparrow; three great grandchildren, Brian Hearn, Jr., Erika Hearn and Kevin Hearn; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Elliott; and a special niece who was like another daughter, Pat Megee. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Lang Sparrow, Sr. "Jack", who passed in 2009; brothers, Howard Taylor and James Taylor; and sisters, Mabel Kenney, Lola Tingle, Agnes Taylor and Margaret Carlisle. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00. a.m. at the Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where an Eastern Star service will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service. The Reverend Phyllis Walton will officiate. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
