Obituary

Virginia L. Foxwell, affectionately known as Ginny, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on November 2, 1943, in Delmar, Maryland, she was the beloved daughter of the late Marion and Rosalie Brittingham. Ginny lived her entire life in the Delmar area, where she cultivated a deep sense of community and a legacy of compassion and care.

Ginny graduated from Delmar High School, where she fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Harry Lane Foxwell, who she married and together they built a loving family. She dedicated her career to helping others, retiring from TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury after years of service as a floor nurse, E.R. nurse, and in family practice. Ginny dedicated much of her life to nursing, where she touched the lives of numerous patients and their families with her kind-hearted nature and unwavering commitment to care. She also spent many fulfilling years at Delmar Nursing Home, caring for patients and family members alike.

She was also known for her entrepreneurial spirit, selling custom items from Leigh's Lingerie, which she made for many family members and friends.

A lifelong member of the community, Virginia grew up attending St. Stephens Church and later became an active congregant at Melson's Church in Delmar. She was renowned for her love of family and the joyous holiday celebrations she orchestrated, famously preparing delicious meals featuring her signature banana punch, cucumbers and onions, macaroni and cheese, and cream of crab soup. Known for her canning skills, she was always eager to share her homemade goodness with loved ones.

Ginny cherished moments spent outdoors, enjoying fishing, crabbing, and camping at Tom's Cove and Roaring Point. Her nurturing nature and unwavering dedication to her family will be remembered by all who knew her.

Ginny is survived by her daughter Ronda Cooper; her beloved granddaughters Cayla Morgan Cooper (Jason McKenna) and Amber Brooke Cooper (Aaron Davis); cousin, Jack Bailey (Karen); sister-in-law Patricia Foxwell; nephews, Frank Hamilton, Jr. (Kelly), Rick Hamilton (Wendy), Barney Ray Foxwell (Donna), and Rex Foxwell (Lee); nieces, Teresa Williams (Bobby) and Dawn Pollitt (David); and many adored great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry Lane Foxwell, son-in-law, Randy Cooper; sisters, Alice Workman (Richard), Frances Collins (Clark) and Joanne Hamilton (Franklin); niece, Sharon Helmns; brothers-in-law, Barney Foxwell (Louise) and Roger Foxwell; and her lifelong friend, Carolyn Byrd.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 6 to 8:00 pm at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10-11 am followed by the funeral service beginning at 11 am. Pastors John Oltman and Ernie Bailey will officiate. Interment will be private. In honor of Virginia's favorite color, attendees are encouraged to wear shades of purple to her services. As we gather to celebrate her life, we invite all family, friends, and loved ones to join in remembering her legacy and the love she shared with those around her.
