Violet "Jill" Bedsworth, 95, of Salisbury, MD, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital, surrounded by her baby sister and her beloved niece. Born in West Virginia on February 11, 1930, Jill moved to Salisbury where she made her mark as a dedicated seamstress at Manhattan Shirt Company. Starting her journey there at just 17 years old in 1947, she devoted an impressive 39 years to the company, missing only one day of work due to illness in all that time. She worked until their closing in 1986. Jill's work ethic and commitment were truly remarkable. Jill was not just a hard worker; she was also a beloved member of her community. In her earlier days, she found her spiritual home at Salisbury Baptist Temple and later at Athol Baptist Church, where she formed lasting connections. Known for her good heart and love for people, she enjoyed playing bingo, hitting the slots, and participated in a bowling league for many years. In her later years, she took great joy in caring for elderly individuals, providing them with companionship and support well into her 90s. She is survived by her baby sister, Linda Johnson (Linda Callaway); beloved niece, Wendy Catlin-Hamblin (Ed); niece, Janet Fox (Andy); many additional nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Nikki Hayhurst who faithfully visited Jill every Monday and Thursday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Janey Mace VanMeter; brothers, including her twin Jack, Robert, Ronnie, and Junior; and sisters, Doris, Helen and Gladys. Services will be held for Jill on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, with a visitation starting at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Reverend Wayne Holland will officiate. Please join us to celebrate her wonderful life and the memories we share. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wicomico Nursing Home for their diligent care and support during Jill's last years. The family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Wicomico Nursing Home, Activities Department, 900 Booth Street, Salisbury, MD 21801, to support the continued care of residents.
