Vernon E. Lyons, Sr., age 75, of Salisbury, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born July 8, 1933 in Ontario, Canada, a son of the late Percy and Mary Irene (Kenney) Lyons. Vernon graduated from Snow Hill High School with the Class of 1951. He served proudly served his country for 3 years in the MD National Guard during the Korean Conflict then served 4 years with the MD National Guard Reserves. He is remembered as a hard working man, and in addition to other jobs he had, worked as a lineman for Delmarva Power & Light, a scale technician for Toledo Scales and retired in 1998 as Sr. Service Technician for Hobart Corporation after 32 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed working as a vendor for Tastycake. He was a member of Sinepuxent Lodge 193 in Snow Hill, where he joined in 1977, was raised to Master Mason in 1978 and just celebrated 30 years as Master Mason. He was a Past Master of the Lodge, humbly filling that position from 1980 to 1982. Many from across Delmarva knew Vernon and respected him as one of the areas best ever steel guitar players. He loved music and played with some of the best, including, Simon McGrath's Band, Bill Godfrey's String Kings, Jimmy Hayman and The Outcasts, Eddy Cheezem, CC Rider, Highway 1 and recorded with several other local artists. He was an active member of ROPE- Reunion of Professional Entertainers. His love for his family, music and service to others will be his legacy. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Hudson) Lyons; a daughter, Terry Lynn Vosburg and her husband, Brian of LaPlata, MD; 4 sons, Vernon "Gene" Lyons, Jr. of Dames Quarter, MD, Keith Robert Lyons and his wife, Faith of Delmar, Daniel Alan Lyons and his wife, Mary Jo of Federalsburg and E.K. Scott and his wife, Amy of Salisbury; 9 grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Amy, Amanda, Laura Elizabeth, Kristina, Matthew, Andrew and Tina; and 8 great grandchildren, Nate, Hope, Devon, Dylan, Riley, Bruce, Lee and Dusty Lynn. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and his beloved cat, "Red". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Parkinson, a brother, Donald A. Lyons and a sister, Joan Elizabeth Ford. A Masonic service will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service, at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, where family and friends may call from 6:00 7:00. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sinepuxent Masonic Lodge 193, P.O.
