Vaughn Payne passed away Friday, January 19th, 2024, at his home in Fruitland. Vaughn was born February 21, 1930, in Pocomoke to the late Brinkman and Leona Mae Payne. He was the 12th child of 13 and the last one of his siblings surviving. Preceding him in death were siblings Preston, Dorothy (Ralph), Cornelia (Fred), Nina (Ben), Beatrice (Lester), Leon (Lorraine), Vernon (Doris), Eunice (Pete), Rose (Roland) as well as three younger siblings. Vaughn proudly served his country in the US Army for three years during the Korean War. When Vaughn retired from Dresser, he helped build the Fruitland Christian Church. Through that process he became a Christian. He worked for years cutting the grass for his church and for people in the community. He would have turned 94 in February. He is survived by his wife Viola and on Christmas Eve they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Left to cherish his memory, is his wife; daughter Sherry and son-in-law Michael; grandchildren, Michael (Danielle), Ashley (Joe), and Brittany (Brandon); as well as his great grandchildren Makayla, Brianna, Michael, Abigail, Luca and Keira, along with many nieces, nephews and special friends. Vaughn had a strong bond and a great love for his family. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke. A celebration of Vaughn's life will be held at Fruitland Christian Church at 11am on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Shawn Short will officiate.
