Una Fletcher Bradd left her family and friends peacefully on January 14, 2023, in her residence at Northdale Rehabilitation Center in Tampa, Florida, where she resided for the last five years. Una was born May 9, 1921, in Sharptown, Maryland, a daughter of the late Harry G. Fletcher and Lottie Belle Walker Fletcher. She was raised and grew up in Sharptown, as one of 6 children. She attended and graduated from Sharptown School in 1939. At the age of 18, she married the love of her life, Kenneth W. Bradd, leaving home and family to live the life of a military wife. They were stationed and lived on numerous Air Force bases within the United States and Germany. During their many deployments they were gifted a daughter, Una Kay Bradd Farmer, born August 8, 1946. Being stationed at McDill Air Force base, Tampa, Florida, while working on a plane as an electrician, Kenneth died suddenly in an electrical accident. Una, as a military widow, stayed and continued to live in Tampa for the remainder of her life, some 60 plus years. Una never remarried. She devoted her life, after Ken, to raising her daughter alone, until her daughter married and moved to Mississippi. Una continued to live, work, volunteer and enjoy life in Tampa. She worked in the insurance industry until she retired. After retirement she spent countless hours volunteering at the McDill Base Commissary, Shriners Hospital for Children and Ye Mystic Flying Club, where she obtained her pilot's license and flew small planes. She lived a full life, traveling all around the world with thousands of pictures of her adventures. She never knew a stranger and made many, many friends throughout her journey in life. She loved to laugh and have fun no matter where she roamed and opened her home to all family and friends who came to visit. She had wonderful, friendly neighbors, in particular, Pam and Patrick Calwhite, and their two sons, Travis and Evan, who became extended family to her. Pat, Pam, and the boys looked after her when her family, so far away, couldn't be there. Her family has been blessed to have them included as family. Una is survived by a grandson, William Farmer; 3 great grandchildren, all of Brockhaven, Mississippi; a sister, Edna Fletcher Silvia of Sharptown; brother, Herman J. Fletcher of Sharptown; as well as several nieces and nephews. Una was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lottie Fletcher; husband, Kenneth Bradd; daughter, Una Kay Farmer; brothers, Thomas, Ted, and Ned Fletcher; and stepsister, Inez Wheatley Cordrey. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 1 :00 pm at the Sharptown Firemens Cemetery on Laurel Road in Sharptown, where she will be laid to rest with her parents. The Reverend David Bennett will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
