Obituary

Thomas James Hart, III, of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, after a brief stay at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. He was born July 31, 1946, in Watertown, NY, a son of the late Thomas James Hart II and Helena Ogden (Hulsopple) Hart. Tom proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1964-1968 and received several medals and commendations during the Vietnam War. After his return from Vietnam, Tom worked many places as an auto mechanic, hvac technician, electrician and handyman and was a jack-of-all-trades. He loved the challenge of solving and fixing mechanical problems. More recently he worked at Lowe's in Salisbury and enjoyed helping customers with information and techniques for their DIY projects. Tom's passion was anything that went fast, especially motorcycles and old hot rods. Not only was he good with mechanical repairs but was also an accomplished woodworker. Tom enjoyed life and will be remembered for his love of family more than anything. He rarely missed a family function, wedding or graduation and he loved his kids and grandchildren more than anything. He is survived by 5 children, Amy Riggin and husband, James, and their son Christian, Matthew Hart and his children Tanner and Nathan, Laura Hart-Siano and husband Thomas and her children Stephen and Nathaniel, Benjamin Thomas Hart and wife Catherine and Lisa Hart-White and husband Michael; several great-grandchildren; brother, Douglas Hart; sisters, Thomasine Jeanne Hart-Dunham, and Shirley Mae Gianti; and a nephew, who was more like a brother to him, George VanDerveer, Jr. He is also survived by several half-brothers and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alyssa N. White; and several half-brothers. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which begins at 12:00 noon.
