Obituary

Thelma Reid Genga, 93, of Salisbury, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. She was born in Vienna, MD on June 21, 1915, a daughter of the late John Millard Reid and Kemma Ann (Henry) Reid. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Genga, sister, Lena Wilson and brothers Wallace Reid, Vernon Reid and William (Hank) Reid. She is survived by her son, John Genga and his wife, Nancy of Mardela Springs; grandson Mark Genga and his wife, Amy, their daughter Logan and son Mason, of Delmar; grandson, Andrew Genga and his wife, Lori, their son Daniel, of Selbyville. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. Thelma graduated from Vienna High School in June of 1932. She then graduated from the Cambridge Maryland Hospital School of Nursing in May of 1937 as a Registered Nurse. She was a floor supervisor at Cambridge Hospital from September of 1939 until June of 1843 when she entered the Army Nurse Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant during World War II. She also worked at Myer Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, NY. She joined the then Peninsula General Hospital in June of 1956 as a general duty and operating room staff nurse, retiring in October of 1977. Thelma was a dedicated nurse and a quiet loving person who touched many lives. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury. Interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: Maryland Food Bank, P.O.
