Laurel
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Teresa Mae Harris Wheatley Cooper, born on September 17, 1967, in Baltimore City, Maryland, a daughter of the late Everett James Harris, Sr. and Margaret Ann Henderson Harris. Teresa departed this life on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the age of 58 after a brief stay at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
Teresa grew up in Mardela Springs and graduated from Mardela High with the class of '85. In her professional journey of over 10 years in the healthcare coding industry, she dedicated her talents to organizations such as Atlantic General Hospital and TidalHealth. Prior to her impactful career in healthcare, she worked at Perdue, demonstrating the same unmatched determination and zest for life that defined her entire journey. Teresa was renowned for her caring nature and commitment to taking care of others.
An outdoor enthusiast at heart, Teresa loved tending to her flowers, nurturing the hummingbirds that visited her garden, and spending cherished moments at her "happy place"-the beach. Her passion for travel led her on countless adventures, whether by plane or cruise ship, allowing her to explore new horizons. Teresa also found joy in stock car racing, dedicating her time and energy to assist at the Delmar and Georgetown Speedways. A true animal lover, Teresa had a huge place in her heart for her dogs, Sadie, Gabby and Dixon. A former member of the Salisbury Elks Club, she enjoyed the social events and friends made there.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Kevin W. Cooper; son, Shawn W. Cooper and wife, Laura; beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Shawn Jr., Cody, and Jax Cooper; brother, Everett James "Jim" Harris, Jr. and wife, Tammy; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Teresa was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Harris Hopper, and nephew, James Hopper.
To honor Teresa's remarkable life, a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Teresa's life, share memories, and pay their respects.
