Obituary

Susie L. Jarrett, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on November 11, 1945, in Salisbury, Maryland, Susie lived a life filled with compassion, service, love and dedication to her family and faith. Susie graduated in June 1974 from Delaware Technical and Community College with an associate degree in secretarial technology and immediately went to work at her first job outside of the home as a medical secretary for nine years in the urology field. As a young adult she started teaching Sunday School at St. Stephen's Church in Delmar before continuing her teachings at Delmarva Evangelistic Church where she faithfully taught up until the last two months. She first joined the church staff on August 22, 1983, and taught at the Crusaders Christian Academy. In January of 1989 Susie was voted in as the executive church secretary at Delmarva Evangelistic Church, where she touched countless lives with her warmth and commitment. Her unwavering dedication to enhancing the spiritual lives of those around her left a lasting impact on the community. A proud graduate of Christian Life College of Theology, Susie received her associate degree in theology in 1987, her bachelor's in 1989, and her master's in 1992. With her extensive education, she brought wisdom and insight to her work at the church. Throughout her years at Delmarva Evangelistic Church, Susie wore many hats. She served in the bus and van ministry, nursing home ministry, and prison outreach at ECI, Poplar Hill, and the Wicomico County Detention Center. Among her cherished experiences were missionary trips to St. Lucia in 1986 and Russia in 1992. Susie served as a deaconess for many years, assisted pastors Dr. Ray and Ruth Chamberlain, and inspired many as she preached, spoke, and sang at local churches and women's groups. Notably, she taught the Foundation Life Sunday School Class for over 18 years, sharing her knowledge and love for her faith She is survived by her loving children; Lisa Gordy (Mark), Stanley Justis, III, and Betsy Wooten (John). She leaves behind a cherished legacy, including her grandchildren: Christopher Justis, Curtis Justis (Ronli), Catrina Hudson (Chad), Eliana Justis, Ashley Paugh (Nathan), Jordan Johnson (Michele), Kristin Wooten, Matthew Gordy, and Meghan Gordy, 15 great grandchildren, her sister, Adell Whaley; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Jane Castle who was like a sister to her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Lillian (Parker) Gordy; beloved husband Jaredy D. "Jerry" Jarrett; and brother-in-law Robert Whaley. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation that will take place at Delmarva Evangelistic Church in Salisbury on Thursday, August 7, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A funeral service honoring Susie's life will follow at 11:00 a.m., celebrating her unwavering faith and her generous spirit. Pastor Robert "Buzz" Gregory will officiate. Interment will follow the service at St. Stephens Cemetery Park in Delmar. The family kindly requests that donations be made in Susie's name to the Delmarva Evangelistic Church, 407 Gordy Road, Salisbury, MD 21804, reflecting her lifelong dedication to her faith.
