Obituary

Steven G. Riley, 57, of Pittsville, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury after a lifelong, courageous battle with diabetes and other health issues. Steven was born May 18, 1964, in Salisbury, a son of the late Harold C. Riley and Dorothy Pattey Riley. He is survived by his brother, Bill Riley and wife, Sandy of Salisbury; a nephew, Tyler C. Riley and his wife Val, and their children, Brooklyn Brady, and the twins, Blake and Kennedy Riley; a niece, Jenna Riley; uncles, Philip Pattey and wife Margaret and Reginald Pattey and wife Jane; and cousins, Chris Pattey and fiancé Wendy, Jill Wilson and husband Mike, and their daughter, Emily and Liz Pattey and Phil Pattey, as well as many Riley cousins. Steven was raised in Newark and in his younger days attended Bowen United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Newark Volunteer Fire Department for over 17 years. He graduated from Snow Hill with the class of '82. After graduation he earned his degree in hotel & motel management from Wor-Wic Community College. He enjoyed a 24-year career working in security for Golden Sands Condominiums in Ocean City until his health began to fail. He became very close to many of the residents and property owners there and loved them like they were family. Steven loved living near the shore and spent countless days enjoying the beach with family and friends. Civil War history was his passion and he felt at home walking the various battle grounds he loved to visit and chat with loyal friend J.B. Saunders. He also loved reading about the history of the railroad. Steven was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, especially the Phillies and Eagles and shared this love with his family. He enjoyed keeping in contact with his Newark, MD lifelong friends Russell Barbely and Everett LeCates. Genealogy was also a passion of Steven and for many years he studied and knew a lot about his family tree. He will be remembered as a wonderful son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowen Cemetery in Newark.
