Obituary

Stephen Eric Sooy Sr., born on March 10, 1967, in Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on October 12, 2026. He was a son of the late Richard Sooy and Barbara Ebaugh. He will be remembered as a devoted father, a respected supervisor at UPS, and a loyal friend to many.

Steve spent his formative years in New England before returning to Baltimore in his teenage years. After moving to the Eastern Shore, he worked as a self employed carpenter for many years before he began his career at UPS in Salisbury. This is where he built a bond with his co-workers that he cherished, and whom he considered an extended family. For the last 16 years of his life, he served as a supervisor there, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.Known for his fierce passion for weather watching, Steve was also a history buff and took immense pride in teaching his children valuable life lessons. He was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, and he enjoyed NASCAR, cheering on his favorite drivers, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr. His unique sense of humor brought joy and laughter to those around him.

Steve's love for music, particularly hard rock and heavy metal, was a defining aspect of his life. He had a passion for golf and an affection for animals, including his beloved dog Chelsie, who passed years earlier, as well as his current dogs Coalby and Lilo and cats Belle and Beebe.

He is survived by his sons, Stephen Sooy Jr., Matthew Sooy, Christopher Sooy and Kane Lewis; his daughter, Peyton Griffith; his granddaughters, Iris Sooy, Meadow Sooy and Paisley Lewis; his grandson, Liam Sooy; his brother, Jonathan Rivera; his sister, Vanessa Rivera; and his aunt, Dale Sooy, along with numerous cousins.

His family and friends will be gathering to honor Steve's remarkable life and memory for a visitation at a later date. All are welcome to join in celebrating the life of a man who touched so many hearts with his laughter, love, and unforgettable spirit.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Steve's honor.
