Obituary

Stephen Todd Smith, 46, of Edgewater, Maryland, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at his home in Edgewater. He was born June 10, 1965 in Salisbury, a son of Thelma Jean (Stephens) Smith and the late Carroll V. Smith. Steve graduated from Delmar High School with the class of 1983. He earned his degree from George Washington University in 1991 before entering the US Army, where he proudly served his country for many years, earning the rank of Retired Master Sergeant. He worked as an intelligence analyst with the Army for many years and was stationed in Germany, Bosnia, Kosovo and his last assignment took him to Iraq. Once he returned home to Edgewater, Steve worked for various information technology companies such as Hewlett Packard, where his specialty was working with federal contracts. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading and studying history. He is survived by his mother, Jean, and a sister, Lisa C. Smith of Delmar. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, William and Martha Stephens and Charles and Lillie Smith. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00. The Reverend Sam McWilliams and Pastor John Oltman will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Hebron Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Operation We Care- MMP c/o OWC, 1008 S. Salisbury Blvd, Salisbury, MD 21801. Arrangements are being handled by Short Funeral Home of Delmar.
