Laurel- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Russell Kaniecki, Sr. who left us peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Baltimore, MD, on August 24, 1940, Stanley lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and love, making his home in Laurel, DE, for many years. Stan was a true sports enthusiast. He had an unwavering loyalty to the Baltimore Colts, then Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles, and his love for sports didn't stop there. He devoted countless hours to coaching basketball, softball, and baseball and proudly served as a football official for youth sports, sharing his passion with the next generation. In his downtime, you could find him on the tennis court, at the bowling alley, or out on the golf course, always ready for some friendly competition. Stan served as a member of the Knights of Columbus putting his faith into action and providing support to community members as well as volunteering at the Laurel Senior Center. He also was an animal lover with a big heart, particularly when it came to his furry companion, a beloved cat named GiGi. A lifelong learner, Stan attended classes at the local university and he could often be found immersed in a good book, seeking knowledge or simply enjoying a captivating story. He also had a great appreciation for the outdoors, relishing every opportunity to walk, hike, and go birdwatching. After a successful career in banking, he retired as a bank manager from Allfirst Bank in Millsboro, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues. A proud father, Stan, is survived by his children, Stanley R. Jr., Michael, Jacqueline and Michelle. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Justin, Bailey, Max, Alex, Landon, Caleb, Maggie, and Finn. Stan also enjoyed the time spent with his special friend Patricia. His family meant the world to him, and he loved to travel to spend time with his children, often taking trips to the Outer Banks creating cherished memories. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Hilda Kaniecki; his wife, Marguerite Cathleen Kaniecki; and his brother, Les Kaniecki. A private memorial service for immediate family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Brandywine Valley SPCA, Georgetown DE campus.
