SALISBURY-Shirley Mae Shores, 74, of Salisbury, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born at home in Salisbury on October 8, 1935, a daughter of the late William Sigsbee Shores and Sadie Frances Downes Shores. Shirley worked as a Nurses Assistant in the nursery at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, a job she loved for 37 years. She was a member of the Lighthouse of Faith Holiness Church in Salisbury. She adored her family and was a surrogate mother to her many nieces and nephews. Even in her later years as her eyesight started to fail, Shirley was an avid reader and was appreciative when she received a device to enlarge the print in the books she took pleasure in reading. She was a diehard Baltimore Orioles fan and stuck with them through the good times and bad. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Belle West of Nanticoke and Donna Shores Huntington of Salisbury; two brothers, William Shores, Jr. of Jasper, Alabama and Benjamin Alan Shores of Salisbury; a foster brother, Don Cooper; a foster sister, Mary Ethel Brown; and a special family member, John "Pop" Scalzo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara A. Shores Jones, Anna Rebecca Shores and Aileen Shores Lewis. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Chris Huntington will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
