Obituary

Shirley Ann Monti, 88, of Snow Hill, died Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 13, 1923 in Cape Girardeau, MO, a daughter of the late Elliott Smith and Constance Houlihan Smith Cole. Shirley was raised in Washington, DC where she met and married her husband. They raised their three children in Alexandria, VA until relocating to Snow Hill in 1975. She and her husband fell in love with Snow Hill, knowing that was where they wanted to spend the rest of their lives. Shirley and her daughter, Nona, went to travel school together in Alexandria, VA. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, a member of the Homemakers Club of Snow Hill and had a natural gift for painting in oils. She worked for many years as a travel coordinator for Intervet, Inc. in Millsboro with her good friends, Sally, Arlene and Marta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Renard R. Monti, who died in 1992, her brother, Jack E. Smith and her step-father, Fred Cole. She is survived by 3 daughters, Nona M. Clubb and her husband, Jay, Mary Ann Bray and Connie Webster and her husband, Stephen; a step-daughter, Renee Mack; grandchildren, Brian C. Clubb, Michael D. Clubb and Lorrie Bianchi; and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving and devoted friend, Pat Dennis. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to Nicole and Tim at Gull Creek Assisted Living in Berlin for their love and devotion. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Whatcoat Cemetery in Snow Hill. The Reverend Kenneth D. Elligson will officiate.
