Shirley Reynolds Messick, 70, of Delmar, Delaware went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 6, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her loving family and close friends after a courageous battle against cancer. Born December 12, 1944 in Milford, she was the daughter of the late Millard "Inky" Reynolds and Doris Sherman. She was a wonderful, loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Shirley enjoyed church, cooking, gardening and most of all spending time with her family. Before retirement, she had worked as a secretary and office manager during most of her career. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa "Terrie" Lynn Shatney of Salisbury; a son, Robert "Bobby" Lee Devereaux, Jr. of Delmar; grandchildren, Richard William Hoisington, Jr., Shelby Lynn Shatney, Sherrie Lee Shatney, and Brandon Lee Devereaux; great grandchildren, Ryan and McKenna Devereaux; a sister, Janice Johnson and her husband Jimmy; and a nephew and niece. She was preceded in death by her past husbands, Joshua Messick, Harbeson Hickman, and Robert Devereaux, Sr., in which she had her children with; as well as her beloved cat "Heather" she had for over 20 years. A celebration of life will be held at her church on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at St Paul's United Methodist Church, 32827 Old Stage Road, Laurel, DE 19956. Reverend Rebecca Rollins will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 32827 Old Stage Road, Laurel, DE 19956 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
