Shirley T. Abbott, 80, of Delmar, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born on November 19, 1934 in Crisfield, Maryland, a daughter of the late Augustus and Nelda Thomas. Shirley was an avid supporter of the Delmar Athletics, especially the football team where she could be found ringing the cowbell during the games. She will be remembered for always helping others, as she was the co-founder of the Second Wind Halfway House where she helped many people through their addictions. She had 42 years of sobriety with Alcoholics Anonymous. She was also the founder of the crime watch on Elizabeth Street, where she loved and watched out for her many neighbors. Shirley was an animal lover and was quite fond of her grandsons' dogs, Donovan, Bert, and Taz. She was also an organ donor with the Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland. She is survived by a son, Keith A. "Artie" Abbott, Sr.; two daughters, Penny L. Glasgow and Ilah M. Preston and her husband Chris, all of Delmar; grandchildren, CJ Preston (Heather), Keith Preston (Leslie), Alan Preston, Freddie Glasgow, Jason Glasgow (Laura) and Artie Abbott, Jr; great grandchildren, Elle Preston, Rowan Preston, Brody Preston, Seneca Glasgow, Maci Mae Preston, and Koevie Abbott; a special friend, Dee Lehman; and several nieces and nephews in Michigan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Keith K. Abbott; a brother, Leroy Thomas; and two beloved aunts, Mamie Nock and Irene Collins. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Delmar Athletic Booster Club, 200 North 8th Street, Delmar, DE 19940 or to the Delmar Fire Department, P.O.
