SALISBURY- Shelia Davis Layfield, 65, passed away on March 24, 2017 at PRMC after a lengthy illness. Born on June 15, 1951 in Salisbury, MD to Robert and Geneva (Wingate) Davis, she was a 1969 graduate of J.M. Bennett High, where she was a cheerleader and active in other extracurricular activities. She studied early childhood education and music at Salisbury State College, and taught music briefly at North Western Elementary School. She started her own daycare business, Little Bear Daycare, and took care of children in her home for over 35 years. She loved to collect Longaberger and treasured her yearly trips with her family to Lancaster. She was a friend to everyone and always had a kind word. She enjoyed baking and cooking and you could always count on a home cooked meal if you visited. But her favorite activity was spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Gary Davis. She is survived by her son, Rob Layfield (Jessica Cecil), grandson Alex; son, Chris Layfield, granddaughters Lexi and Jasmine; sister, Trisha Gauntt (Raymond); brothers, Jr. Davis (Tammy) and Jerry Davis; sisters-in-law, Roni Lane and Anna Davis; life-long best friend, Linda Steinacker (George); close family friends, Amy Spicer and Cathy Justice, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves behind her beloved daycare kids. Services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar with visitation one hour prior.
