Obituary

It is with a mix of sadness and celebration that we announce the passing of Sarah Ellen Sanjean, who departed this world on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on November 19, 1938, in Cambridge, MD, she was a daughter of the late Hazel and Elsie Parks Baker. Sarah spent her life enriching the lives of those around her, most recently calling Delmar her home. A proud member of the voluntary Coast Guard in her younger days, Sarah showcased a spirit of service and dedication that defined her character. She enjoyed a fulfilling career as an engineering administrator for PacBell and C&P, which later became AT&T, where her contributions left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the industry. Sarah was known for her immense creativity and talent as an artist, filling the world with beautiful drawings that depicted her love for nature. Her heart was forever anchored by her love for the ocean, and she found solace in its waves. Animals held a special place in her life; her affection for dogs, cats, and horses was profound and unwavering.A lover of music and an enthusiast of the history and meaning of words, Sarah was a person of deep thinking and appreciation for life's nuances. Her curiosity and passion extended to everyone she met, inviting conversations that were as rich and varied as her interests. She is survived by her loving daughter, Joan Causey (Dennis) of Texas; her devoted sons, Richard Wilkerson (Christine) of California, Robert Wilkerson of Oregon and Don Wilkerson of California; multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister, Rebecca Stanley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Sterling Wilkerson; her second husband, Dr John Sanjean; a son, Steven Norris Wilkerson; and a sister, Elsie Shimek. In honor of Sarah's remarkable life, her visitation and services will be held privately. She will be laid to rest near her parents in East New Market Cemetery.
