Sandra Jean Riley "Irish Lady" Cooper, 70, of Delmar, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at her home in Delmar, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 14, 1943 in Delmar, a daughter of the late Herman D. Riley, Sr. and Evelyn Carrie (Pusey) Riley. Mrs. Cooper worked for over 30 years as a seamstress for various garment factories, such as Rombro Brothers, Banks & Pusey and Gant's. She loved camping at Roaring Point Campground where through the years she had developed so many friendships. She always put other's needs before her own and was called "Mom" by many. She also enjoyed supporting her family in their activities and especially loved watching her son's softball games. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gene E. Cooper, Sr.; 2 sons, Gene E. Cooper, Jr. and his companion, Christina Evans, of Salisbury and Jimmy A. Cooper of Parsonsburg; 2 grandchildren, Gene Cooper, III and Michelle Purcell; her beloved poodle, "Snuggles"; several step grandchildren; 2 sisters, Evelyn Mumford and her husband, Russell and Betty Thomas, all of Delmar; a brother, Herman "Bunky" Riley, Jr. and his wife, Ruby of Delmar; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Jenny Dize and Doris Bull. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00. The Reverend Howard Travers will officiate. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Willards. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home, Delmar.
