Obituary

Sandra R. Massey, beloved wife and mother, Sandra (or "Sam"), joined the ranks of the angels on Monday, December 30, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Leroy Ruark Sr (1982) and Louise Wheeler Ruark (2003), and her brother, Joey, Joseph Leroy Ruark Jr (1985). Sandra was born in Cambridge, Md on November 21, 1946, where she lived until moving to Seaford in 1957. She loved to share the stories of her family's history and Dorchester County heritage. She graduated from Seaford High School in 1964 and later that fall she married the love of her life, Bob. She dearly loved her husband and their two daughters, Laura and Heather. She was co-owner of Massey's Used Cars for over 50 years, and a past president of the Seaford Elks Lodge #2458 Ladies Auxiliary. Over the years, she and Bob made a hobby of buying homes that she enjoyed decorating. Her favorite and most challenging project was the restoration of a historic property that she lovingly called "The Farm ". They would go on to build their next two homes ending with her perfect forever home. She truly enjoyed entertaining and never disappointed when hosting her infamous Derby and Christmas parties; and most notably her daughter Laura's wedding reception at Foxchase, their home on the Nanticoke River. She and her husband retired from the car business in 2012 and she loved to spend the day watching wildlife in her backyard. She spent countless hours watching and admiring deer, wild turkey, bald eagles, red fox, well-fed squirrels, an array of birds, especially the piliated woodpeckers and her beloved hummingbirds. She had a special place in her heart for the many pets that have been lucky enough to be spoiled by her. Sandra is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert S. Massey; daughters Heather Lynn Massey and Laura M. Biscoe and her husband, W.T. She also leaves behind Gabby (her great dane) and Bogey (manx cat) and several "grandkitties." A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 1:00 pm at St. John's United Methodist Church in Seaford, where family and friends may call from 12:00 to 1:00. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home of Delmar. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
