Delmar- Sally A. Yates, 60, of Delmar, died Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at her home in Delmar, surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 28, 1955 in Salisbury, the daughter of Gerald Lee Messick of Delmar and the late Gloria Walker Messick. Sally graduated from Delmar High School with the class of 1973 and attended Del-Tech in Georgetown where she met her close friend, Sheila Montgomery. Sheila was with Sally the morning she passed. She worked at Sussex Trust bank after leaving college and retired in 2010 after 33 years of service from Delmarva Power as a Senior Community Outreach Specialist. At Delmarva Power she was a member of the Vingt Cinq Club. She was very active with Women Supporting Women. Sally loved animals and people, loved to travel and her conversations with her Facebook family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, daughter, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jerry E. Yates; a son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Aurore Yates of Delmar; grandchildren, Logan Neal and Nathan Yates; and brothers, Jack Messick of Richmond, Virginia and Scott Messick and wife, Lucy of Delmar. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins, along with a special cousin, Vickie Wilkerson. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00.
