Obituary

MARDELA SPRINGS- Sadie W. Shiles, 96, of Mardela Springs, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at her home in Mardela Springs, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 24, 1917 in Mardela, a daughter of the late Calvin Lee Wilson and Maude Taylor Wilson. In her early days Sadie worked at the old pickle plant in Sharptown and later at the Columbia Packing House. She retired in 1977 as a dietician for Deer's Head Hospital in Salisbury after 15 years of service. She was the oldest living member of Snethen United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed the flowers and birds in their yard. She is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt who loved her family with all of her heart and soul. She will be missed by many friends that were inspired by her. She is survived by 2 daughters, Carolyn S. Groton and her husband, John of Pace, Florida and Jeannie Lloyd of Delmar; 6 grandchildren, Ronnie Groton of Florida, Michele Jones of Delmar, Richard Lloyd of Illinois, Christopher Lloyd of South Carolina, Kory Shiles of Mardela and Dustin Shiles of Sharptown; 11 great grandchildren, Hanah, Gabriela, Ethan, Evan, Alex, Addison, Alexa, Bryce, Kayden, Kellen and Logan; 2 special nieces, Peggy McCoy of Florida and Rachel Rider of Oxford; and a special nephew, Terry Leutner of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Harold Shiles, in 2007; an infant son, Harold S. Shiles, Jr., in 1940; a dedicated son, Milton Shiles, in 2011; a granddaughter, Christine Groton, in 2009; a great granddaughter, Allison Jones, in 2001; 2 sisters, Irma Bosman and Elizabeth Leutner; a brother, William Wilson; and a son-in-law, Gene Lloyd. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Snethen United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs, where family and friends may also call one hour prior to the service. David Mister, Lay Leader, will officiate. Interment will follow the services in Firemen's Cemetery in Sharptown.
