Ruth May Zimmerman, 90, of Laurel, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. She was born May 17, 1927 in Baltimore, a daughter of the late William Henry Jockel and Helen Frances (Kennedy) Jockel. In her younger days she was an accomplished ice-skater. For over 60 years Ruth worked as a waitress in various restaurants in the Glen Burnie and Brooklyn Park area. She was a people person and who truly loved her co-workers and cherished the friendships she made with her customers. She always put others needs before hers and would help anyone in need. She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Maurice E. Zimmerman; children, Richard C. Tawney, David S. Brown (Bambi), Carla Hall (David), Helen Bean (Ernie), Maurice E. Zimmerman, Jr. (Sandy), June Werkey (Dan), Nancy Huson (Robert), Vicky Hodgins (Raymond) and Kenny Zimmerman; 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald and a daughter, Shirley. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. The Reverend Howard Travers will officiate. Interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Memorial Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home of Delmar.
