Ruth E. Wilkerson, the daughter of the late Wilmer and Florence (Phillips) Brittingham, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, after fighting a long battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She graduated from Delmar High School with the class of '68. On June 15, 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Wilkerson, and together they raised their family. She will be remembered for her love for family and friends and memories made at the pool where she spent her summer days. Surprisingly she loved drag racing and never let Jerry forget that she beat him to win the Hot Rod Division in her Cadillac at the US 13 Dragway in Delmar. She retired after many years of service as a master scheduler for Dresser Wayne, Inc. in Salisbury. In addition to her husband of 55 years, she is survived by four daughters, Dawn (Dave) Walker, Michelle (Sean) Plummer, Angela Greenwalt, and Grace (Mack) Malone; 8 grandchildren, Michael Wilson, Olivia Greenwalt (fiancé Paul Brockston), Adyson Greenwalt, Ethan Walker (fiancée Lu Bradley), Seth Walker, Mackayla Malone, Alex Malone (Liz Salas), and Isabella Malone; great grandson, and the apple of her eye, EJ Walker; siblings, Phyllis (Gardner) Lecates, Suzanne (Dick) Nichols, Becky (Curtis) Conley, David (Donna) Brittingham, and Kelly (John) Merritt. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandparents, Reese and Esther Brittingham, and Raymond and Grace Phillips; and brothers, Wilmer Alan Brittingham and Steve Anthony Brittingham. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, and also on Monday, July 3, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 at Salisbury Baptist Temple in Salisbury. Funeral services at the church will begin at 1:00. Interment will follow at Melson's Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family after for food and fellowship at Melson's Community Hall.
