Laurel- Ruth Ann Layfield Hoover, 80, of Laurel, died Friday, November 3, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Delmar, a daughter of the late William R. Layfield and Lillie Agnes (Miller) Layfield. Ruth Ann graduated from Delmar High School with the class of 1955. In her younger days she worked at Sears and Roebuck in Seaford before going back to school fulfill her dreams of becoming a nurse. After earning her degree as an RN she worked many years at Deer's Head Center until her retirement. She attended Faith Baptist Church in Delmar. She loved to travel and with her husband, Don they were fortunate enough to visit all 50 states. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Donald F. Hoover; a daughter, Dawn Ryan and husband, Mark of Laurel; step daughters, Donna Hungerford and husband, Bobby of Dover and Micki Taylor and husband, Steve of Seaford; grandchildren, Adam Ryan, Jacob Ryan, Shawn Heller, Jeffrey Taylor and Brian Taylor; great grandchildren, Emily, Kayla and Brandon; brothers, William Layfield and Clark Layfield, and wife Karen, all of Delmar; and a sister, Agnes Truitt of Seaford. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Winters, a sister-in-law, Virginia Layfield and a brothers-in-law, John Winters and Bruce Truitt. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 at the Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 1207 E. State Street, Delmar. The Reverend Ken Johnson will officiate. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ruth Ann to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, or Faith Baptist Church, 1207 E. State Street, Delmar, MD 21875.
