Ruth Adkins Guthrie, 78, of Snow Hill, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 2, 1936 in Cokesbury, a daughter of the late John and Lillie Adkins. Ruth enjoyed the beautiful country setting in Box Iron, where she had lived since 1967. She was an avid doll collector, especially the Gone with the Wind series. She retired from Acme Markets in Pocomoke. She was a member of Bates Memorial Methodist Church in Snow Hill. Ruth's greatest love was God, her family, and the time spent with her beloved granddaughter, Julie. She is survived by her son, Dr. Ed Guthrie (Connie) of Lewes; a daughter, Sherry Lauer (Larry) of Girdletree; a special granddaughter, Julie Lauer of Girdletree; brothers and sisters, Lloyd Adkins (Lura), James Adkins, Anna "Polly" Gordy, Norman Adkins(Margaret), Aline Wilmer, Carolyn Groff(Ron), Esther Smith (Sam) and Laura Taylor; a sisters-in-law, Amanda Reid (Wade), and Frances Adkins; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin "Ed" Henry Guthrie; a brother, John Adkins; sisters and brothers-in-law, Paul Gordy, Ronald Taylor, and Marian Adkins; and a step-grandson, Jeffrey Foglesonger, Jr. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Spence Baptist Church in Snow Hill. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Reverends Kenneth Elligson and Tina Whaley will officiate.
