DELMAR- Ruth Elliott Britton, 79, of Delmar, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 12, 2019. She was born at home in Marion, MD, a daughter of the late Charles W. Elliott, Sr. and Huldah Tingle Elliott. After graduation from high school Ruth proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1960. After her service in the Navy she worked on the Western Shore for many years. After returning to the Eastern Shore she worked for Campbell's Soup in Salisbury, and was working as a line supervisor until their closure. She then worked for several years for Dresser Wayne before spending her final working years at Salisbury Genesis. She was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing with her late husband, Dan. She was a faithful, active member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar and loved her church and church family. She is survived by sisters, Peggy Joseph and husband, Philip of Salisbury and L. Marie Elliott of Westover; brothers, Charles W. Elliott, Jr. of New Jersey and Gary F. Elliott of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend of over 40 years, Jeannie Green. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel "Dan" E. Britton, who passed in 2011; and several brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Phyllis Walton will officiate. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 101 E. State Street, Delmar, DE 19940.
