Obituary

Roxie Katherine Parsons, a compassionate caregiver and beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the age of 91 at her home, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on April 3, 1933, in Ocean View, DE, Roxie dedicated her life to caring for others, spreading joy through her crochet creations and culinary delights. Her talent for crocheting brought warmth to countless individuals, from the elementary school children who received her handmade hats to the nursing home residents who cherished her quilts. Roxie's cooking was a source of delight for many, with her famous pineapple coconut cake and chocolate Bavarian torte bringing smiles to all who tasted them. Though she was known for her generosity and selflessness, Roxie never sought recognition for her actions, always putting the needs of others before her own. A faithful member of the Delmarva Evangelistic Church in Salisbury, Roxie found solace and community in her religious faith. Throughout her career as a caregiver for the elderly, she touched the lives of many with her kindness and dedication to serving others. She is survived by her children, Ernest Parsons, Wayne Parsons, Deborah Mowbray, Jack Parsons, Hallie Ketterman, and Kathy Bailey; 16 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, one of which was born on her birthday, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Thomas Cullen and Hazel Mae Dickerson Cullen; husband, Ernest Lloyd Parsons, Jr.; siblings, Ralph Cullen, Jerry Cullen, Betty Penuel, Louise Merritt, and Della Jones. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 11:00 am at Delmarva Evangelistic Church, 408 Gordy Road in Salisbury, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Following the service, Roxie will be laid to rest at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, Maryland. In memory of Mrs. Parsons, contributions may be sent to Delmarva Evangelistic Church, 408 Gordy Road, Salisbury, MD 21804. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
