Rosemary Doris Benton Hyman, 94, of Salisbury, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury, Maryland. She was born on May 29, 1916, in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Ralph D. Benton and Rosemary Rice Benton. As a teenager, Mrs. Hyman was an accomplished pianist. She loved to listen to classical music. During her younger years, she worked with a law firm in Washington D.C. and later worked as a switchboard operator during the 1940s and 50s for Prince George's General Hospital and in the early 70s for Glendale Hospital, both in Maryland. She was a homemaker and enjoyed family and church activities. During her life she lived in Washington, DC, Maryland, and South Carolina. She is survived by a son, Frederic Hyman and his wife Judy of Delmar, Maryland; two daughters, Doris H. Wiley and her husband Al of Douglasville, Georgia and Mari Day of Rockville, Maryland; 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harry B. Hyman, a grandson, and a son-in-law, Francis O. Day. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 East Grove Street in Delmar. The Reverend Dale L. Vroman will officiate.
