Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rose "Billie" Johnson Justice, age 81, who left this world on Monday, February 3, 2025, in La Plata, MD. Billie was born on April 10, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late William S. Johnson and Florence Silverthorne Johnson, and grew up in the small community of Horntown, Virginia. She graduated with the class of 1961 from Atlantic High School, one of only 39 proud graduates. Billie married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Bailey Justice, on September 3, 1961. Together, they built a loving home and shared 55 wonderful years of marriage until his passing. Billie was a devoted mother to her daughter Patricia "Trish" Devine and her son Marvin "Jay" Justice, as well as a cherished mother-in-law to Patrick Devine and Melissa Justice. Deeply rooted in her faith, Billie was an active member of various churches throughout her life, including the Horntown Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Delmar, First Baptist Church of Lewes, and, most recently, the First Baptist Church of La Plata. Her faith served as a guiding light in her life, and she was always close to her family, her parents, and her beloved dog, Bailey. Billie had a passion for family and enjoyed traveling with her husband. She enjoyed lunches with her ladies' group in her favorite location, Rehoboth Beach, and was an avid player of train dominoes. Billie took great pride in her grandchildren: Patrick, James, Sarah, John, Evan, and Ethan, and her family was a source of immense joy for her. She loved her sweets almost as much as she loved her family and friends! Funeral services will be held in her honor on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00. Reverend Gary Schneider will officiate. Interment will be private in Nelsons Cemetery in New Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of La Plata, 9070 Hawthorne Road, La Plata, MD 20646, or to her favorite charity, the Dachshund Rescue of North America by visiting www.drna.org. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
