Obituary

Ronald Carlton Wootten, 81, of Delmar, passed away peacefully at Coastal Hospice at the Lake on March 4, 2013. He was born November 1, 1931 in Salisbury, Maryland, a son of the late Naomi Coursey Messick and Carlton Otho Wootten. Ronald was a loving, kind, and compassionate husband to Neta, his wife of 51 years. He was a supporting and loving father to his three sons and two stepsons, as well as a proud and loving grandfather and great grandfather. He always went above and beyond to make sure his family was secure and happy. He worked as a tire salesman for over 30 years, and then worked as an executive salesman for a uniform company. He was very successful with his sales career, as he always treated his customers with respect, and gave them an honest deal. He loved to joke with everyone, and just loved people. He also had a love and passion for music. He sang with many local bands over the years, but was with the Velvetones the longest. Anyone who ever knew Ron Wootten knew he enjoyed living, laughing, and loving to the fullest. The day before Ronald passed, his son, Mark, asked his dad to go ahead and save a place for him. Ron's answer was "Jesus already did that for us." He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and acquaintances. He is survived by his wife, Neta Ruth Wootten; three sons, Mark and his wife Pam, Barry and his wife Deb, and Glenn and his wife Susan; two stepsons, Douglas and David and his wife Hester; a brother, Lee Wootten and his wife Donna; a sister-in-law, Mildred Whisenhunt; six grandchildren, Rick, Ron, Jason, Ian, Shanna, and Chad; nine great grandchildren, Cheyanne, Ariana, Riley, Axel, Chancee, Joshua, Parker, Sarina, and Jacob; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no service. Ron requested there be a celebration of his life for immediate family only at his home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
