Obituary

DELMAR- Rodd Q. Owens, 52, of Delmar, died Monday, February 28, 2011, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, due to complications from a brief illness. He was born August 4, 1958 in Salisbury, a son of the late Ralph Orvel Owens and Mildred Ester (Wilson) Owens. Rodd graduated from Delmar High school with the Class of 1976. He spent 25 years working as a pump tester at Dresser Pump in Salisbury prior to their closing. For the last few years Rodd had worked in sales for Keen Compressed Gases in Salisbury. He was also proud of his grass cutting business, calling himself "Grass Man" for the past 15 years. He loved tinkering on motors and his truck, going to mud hops and was an active member of the Gumboro Mudslingers. He also loved the outdoors, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He was a diehard wrestling fan who loved to watch the Monday night matches on television. He is survived by his wife of almost 21 years, Jamie Christine (Warrell) Owens; a daughter, Alexandria N. Lord and her husband, Daniel of Laurel; a granddaughter, who was the love of his life, Kendra D. Lord; a sister, Anna Mae Rounds and her husband, William of Delmar; a brother, Warren O. Owens and his wife, Rose Ellen of Parsonsburg; mother-in-law, Patricia A. Dyes of Hurlock; father-in-law, James G. Warrell of Texas; brother-in-law, Gregory J. Warrell and his wife, Angie of Seaford; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and an aunt and uncle. He is also survived by his beloved Great Dane, "Sam-Sam." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend since he was 8 years old, Bruce Chance. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 at Short Funeral Home, Delmar, and also on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00, followed by a funeral service to be held at 11:00. Interment will follow the services at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: Kendra Lord Trust, Hebron Savings Bank, P.O.
