Robert "Bobby" Lee Mitchell, 86, of Salisbury, died Friday, May 22, 2009, at his home in Salisbury, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Salisbury, a son of the late Willie and Mary (Pryor) Mitchell. Bobby farmed most of his life. He was a people person who made many friends while running the family produce stand at his home. He had a special way with the horses he loved so much and was an accomplished horse trainer for many years. He was an active member of the U.S. Trotting Association and Cloverleaf. He had an unconditional love for life, his family and ice cream. Rabbit hunting was a favorite hobby and he was an avid card player. He is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Frances Shockley Mitchell; four children, Nancy Shields and her husband Tom of Del Rio, Texas, Judy M. Taylor of Laurel, Delaware, Roger Lee Mitchell and his wife Susan of Salisbury and Brenda Seaton and her husband John of Powellville; six grandchildren, Robert Edward Lewis, Debbie Leigh Lewis, Phillip A. Taylor, Jr., Gail Lynn Charnick, Erin Frances Shockley and Ingrid Marie Harris; and five great grandchildren, Amanda Lynn Taylor, Matthew Phillip Taylor, Dylan Michael Charnick, Kyle Thomas Charnick and Carter Thomas Shockley. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar William Mitchell and George W. Mitchell and two sisters, Mae Parker Richardson and Pearl Morris. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, May 25, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, and also on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00, followed by a funeral service at 11:00. The Reverend Joel Beiler will officiate. Interment will follow at Mitchell Cemetery off of Snow Hill Road. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
