Robert M. McDowell, 66, of Delmar, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 22, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 27, 1951 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, a son of the late Larry and Velma Harvey McDowell. He moved to Delaware in 1981. Bob enjoyed working with his son, Shane as a floor covering installer for their company, B&S Carpet Services, LLC for many years. He loved going to the horse races, playing the roulette wheel and was a skilled poker player. He was an avid Washington Redskins and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. In his younger days he loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing were favorite interests. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sally A. (Boyd) McDowell; children, Shane M. McDowell (Kelly Long), Earl D. McDowell (Diana), Angela K. Hankenson (Mike) and Candy Dose; "adopted daughters," Brandi Timmons, Lettie Ann Harold and Rhonda McDowell Cipolla; grandchildren, Jessica McDowell, Collin McDowell, Bodee McDowell, Randy Hankenson, David Dose, Jimmy Dose and Amanda Gallagher; great grandchildren, Zaimyn, Creedyn, Danyca, Elaina and Marley; siblings, William McDowell (Lorraine), Johnny "Poker" McDowell (Sheila), Connie Coodey (Walter) and Kay Smith (Paul); a sister-in-law, Dorothea McDowell Winter, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog, "Macy Mae" and his "Grand-dog", "Zepplin." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi M. McDowell; and a brother, Ron McDowell. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
