Robert "Bob" J. Taylor, 83, of Hebron, died Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born May 19, 1925 in Whitehaven, Maryland, a son of the late Herman and Eunice (Covington) Taylor. Bob graduated from Hebron High School with the class of 1943. Following high school, he proudly served his country as a Gunner's Mate Second Class aboard the USS Wesson in the U.S. Navy. He was an accomplished carpenter and homebuilder and loved his work as owner of the Robert J. Taylor Construction Co., where he enjoyed teaching his sons the trade. He was a Master Mason and was a member of Temple Lodge 170 in Mardela Springs, a member of the Tall Cedars, a charter member of Springhill Post 237 American Legion in Hebron and a life member of VFW Post 194 in Salisbury. He cherished the memories made with his sons on camping trips. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing and all types of hunting, especially big game hunting. His hunting experiences included hunts for bear, caribou, moose and other big game. He is survived by his wife of almost four years, Peggy A. (Pollitt) Taylor; three sons, Eddie Taylor and his wife Anne, Charles Taylor and his wife Cheryl and Thomas Taylor and his wife Connie, all of Hebron; four grandchildren, Shelley Taylor, Kyle Robert Taylor and his wife Caitlyn, Leanne Taylor and Zachary Taylor; four stepdaughters, Cynthia Whetzel, Karen DiPilla and Julia Richardson and her husband Dave, all of Salisbury and Gail McDonnell and her husband Bill, of Richmond, Virginia; eight step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion Mills Taylor, who passed in 2000, a brother, Freddy Taylor, two sisters, Doris Bryan and Elizabeth Ginsch and an aunt, Nancy Graham. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, and also on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. A Masonic Service will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2009 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow. The Reverend J. Harvey Dixon will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Hebron Cemetery.
