Robert D. Hopkins, 81 of Mardela Springs, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born on September 18, 1940, in Fruitland, MD, a son of the late Frank P. Hopkins, Jr. and Lola Pryor Hopkins. He was also the son-in-law to the late Max and Evelyn Peterson formerly of Salisbury. He graduated from Mardela High School with the class of 1958 and went on to graduate from the University of Maryland College Park. He was employed with the State of Maryland Department of Agriculture in the State Chemist Section for 42 years. Over the years, he served in the United States Coast Guard, was president of the Northwestern PTA, Tri-Town Jaycees and was active at Snethen United Methodist Church. Most importantly, he will be remembered as a caring, giving person and a wonderful husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Suzanne Peterson Hopkins; brother, Frank P. Hopkins, III and his wife Gwen of Spotsylvania, Virginia; sons, Kevin R. Hopkins of Mardela Springs and Robert S. Hopkins and his wife Van of Dunwoody, Georgia; grandchildren, Ian, Spencer and Thad Hopkins also of Dunwoody, GA; nephews, Matt and Clint Hopkins; nieces, Leah Crowley and Lynn Peterson; and special close friends, Michael Januk and Chris Banks who were always willing to lend a hand. A memorial service for family and friends will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Snethen United Methodist Church in care of Jan Frey, 4203 Delmar Road, Delmar, DE 19940.
