Robert E. Gilmore, 76, of Delmar, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family and a beloved nurse from Johns Hopkins. He was born on October 20, 1939 in O'Keeffe, West Virginia, a son of the late Eugene Gilmore and Ann C. Orrell. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy. Over the years, he worked in the Orrell-Surrey Restaurants in Delmar, Virginia Beach and Cambridge. Through the restaurant, he was in charge of catering at the Delmar Convention Hall, preparing and serving for many events. He also worked at Hertrich Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Seaford, and Clayton Homes in Delmar. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, fishing, and antiquing. He was especially fond of farm life, enjoying mowing the pastures and growing vegetables in the garden. He was a member of the Delmar Lodge #201 AF & AM Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Ann S. Gilmore of Delmar; a daughter, Kathy Whitelock of Delmar; a sister, Carol Lynn Orrell of Delmar; a brother, James H. Orrell, III (Diane) of Scottsville, VA; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved companion "Sadie Mae." Services will be private.
