Obituary

Robert "Bob" F. Hazel, Sr, 82, of Eden, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born June 4, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late John Henry Hazel and Eunice Ann Hazel. After school Bob served his country proudly in the US Navy aboard the USS Greenwood during World War II. He was a past member of the VFW Post 8276, Delmar, a member of VFW Post 194, Salisbury and the Salisbury Moose Lodge. His work in law enforcement and security was his passion. His various positions include Security Officer at Campbell's Soup, part time Deputy for the Wicomico Sheriff's Department, where he worked many years, Officer for the Delmar Police Department, Security for the Wicomico County Courthouse and was an Auxiliary Officer for the Delaware State Police. Bob was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church in Columbia, Delaware. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, trips to the beach and watching wildlife on the family farm. He cherished memories made on his many camping trips with his late wife, Nancy. He is survived by two sons, Robert F. Hazel, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly of Laurel and William K. Hazel and his wife, Sharon of Delmar; two daughters, Joy Baker and her husband, Keith of Delmar and Tammy Harris and her husband, Jim of Hebron; thirteen grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; his faithful companion, Audrey Pollek of Eden; and three brothers, Jack Hazel of New Port Richey, FL, David Hazel of Pittsville and Melvin Hazel of Delmar. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Beach Hazel, who passed in 1994; a sister, Carol Hazel Adams; and two brothers, Richard Hazel and Joseph Hazel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00. Interment with military honors will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
