DELMAR- Richard "Rick" Wayne Layfield, 57, of Delmar, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born May 30, 1954 in Salisbury, a son of Mardella Gertrude (Bolen) Lawrence of Mardela Springs and the late Richard Lee Layfield and his wife, Patsy Jean Layfield. Rick worked for 19 years as an electrician for Day Electric in Salisbury before starting his own electrical company. He was very talented working with his hands and was always willing to help a friend or family member who had something that needed repairing. He was a past member of the Redman Lodge in Fruitland and a past social member of the Delmar VFW Post 8276. He enjoyed life, especially riding his motorcycle and camping. He loved children and for a number of years took in foster children. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Nancy Jean (Mowery) Layfield; 8 step-children, Steven Dietz, Jeannie Wilson, Jennifer Wheatley, Reagan Morgan, Trista Mowery, Stephanie Downing, Matthew Parsons and Jessica Parsons; several step-grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia Lee Bullion of Delmar; a half-brother, Levin John Hitchens of Mardela Springs; and an aunt, Rosalie Virginia Brittingham of Laurel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father and step-mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard William Layfield; and 2 brothers, Samuel Thomas Layfield and Royce William Layfield. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Delmar VFW, Post 8276, 200 W. State Street, Delmar, MD.
